Five years ago on June 12, 2016 we lost 49 angels from our community at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

FIU’s Pulse Vigil Committee and the Pride Center at FIU invite you to FIU's Pulse Nightclub Vigil event on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 1:30pm. We hold this event in memory of the 49 angels, to reflect on our healing, and to encourage action in honor of their memory.

Speakers include:

  • President Mark. B. Rosenberg - Florida International Univesity
  • Ashlee Marie Preston - Executive Producer and Cast Member of Disarm Hate
  • Brandon J. Wright - Co-Founder and Vice President of The Dru Project and Media Relations Manager for Equality Florida.
  • Dr. Kim Liu, DOM - Volunteer Physician with Florida Acupuncture Trauma Relief Team
  • MJ and Fred Wright - Parents of Pulse victim and FIU alumnus, Jerry Wright

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
