Join us for the upcoming FIU-RCMI Professional Development Seminar, Implicating Race in Disease: Biosocial Approaches to Women's Health Disparities Research, facilitated by Dr. Jada Benn Torres. In this talk, Dr. Benn Torres will focus on how race is implicated in women’s health to discuss how the irreconcilability surrounding race in research impedes understanding of how genetic, social, and cultural heterogeneity interact to impact the distribution of disease. Holistically understanding the role of race in shaping health disparities will require more critical approaches to race that consider how social and biological factors interface to influence health and disease.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
