The conflict of interest session will explain the requirements for FIU employees and other personnel engaged in research at FIU to report their outside activities and financial interests, as well as the process for the review of that reporting by the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). The session will cover when a monitoring plan is needed to manage conflict of interests and how monitoring plans are implemented. The Federal and Florida law that applies will be discussed as well.  In addition, a discussion of intellectual property (IP) and how it applies in a research setting. The discussion will also address potential pitfalls associated with protecting intellectual property, as well as potential conflicts of interest that can arise.
