Ensuring that data are findable, accessible and reusable, requires that we bring together a broad spectrum of stakeholders whose interoperable interests collectively support the potential strength of scientific academic research.

The benefit of sharing data are vast, from exploring new trials to answering questions that—without access to it—prevent advances in areas as diverse as medicine to space exploration. And while there remain many challenges, including privacy, ethics, policy and best practices, it does seem that the scholarly research community is moving forward, particularly in scholarship, providing and accessing data also bring with it the protocol under which the data was used and experiments were conducted. Both are significant steps in upholding transparency and reproducibility—raising standards for accelerating research across scientific study with rigor and integrity, and through collaboration where broad interests must be fused in a manner that supports and advances the work of researchers in concert with the diverse stakeholders who support and have created an infrastructure to support them.

This NFAIS webinar will address shared approaches and partnerships that we believe can help in the planning and implementation of services and initiatives. Our expert presenters identify the benefits and implications, particularly when communities overlap and are in a position to drive direction and decisions for the benefit of the researchers served.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
