Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (FIU HWCOM NeighborhoodHELP) and FIU HWCOM Office of Diversity and Inclusion, in partnership with the Islamic Center of Greater Miami cordially invite the FIU community to attend our Spring 2019 “Bridging Faith and Culture” event, scheduled to take place on March 21, 2019, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at our Florida International University’s Steven and Dorothea Green Library, located 11200 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33199 on the Modesto Maidique Campus, Room: GL 100. The goal of this series to encourage unity and inclusion by bringing together many leaders, experts, activists, and advocates to discuss many topics such as religion, conflict resolution, and cultural bias.
Throughout our day-to-day lives, the social climate we interact with often causes conflict within our spiritual or cultural selves. This phenomenon affects how we view and shape our own beliefs, but perhaps more importantly, how we view religions and cultures that differ from our own. Influences such as the media or policy often misconstrue the interplay between religion, faith, and culture, further adding to the confusion. Because of this, we overshadow the similarities between religions and cultural backgrounds that unify us with the uncertainties and biases that separate us.
Thought provoking, engaging, and unifying, Bridging Faith and Culture promises to bring light to these misconceptions by demystifying the fallacies associated with the various cultures and faith. This event is a continuation of our Fall 2018 Islamophobia series that highlighted the xenophobic misconceptions associated with the Islamic community.
Join us in connecting the cultures and religions that shape our community.
