The Frost Art Museum presents Tertulia Nights, an after-hours experience that takes place every second Thursday of the month.

This month, we'll be joined by artist José Bedia; Dr. David Font-Navarrete, Assistant Professor, Department of Music, Multimedia, Theatre, & Dance, Lehman College; and Dr. Solimar Otero, Professor, Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Indiana University Bloomington who will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Andrea Queeley. These three experts will examine the work on view in Juan Carlos Alom: Entre los Elementos/Between the Elements and the major role of Afro-descendants in the development of Cuban music, religion, and art.

This event is free and open to the public, thanks to our partners at the Art Bridges FoundationThe Cuban Research Institute at FIU, and the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs. Refreshments are provided to guests aged 21 and over courtesy of our friends at Tripping Animals Brewery. Tertulia Nights is recommended for guests aged 18 and older.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
