The Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), founded in 2004, is a cooperative digital library consisting of over 4,000,000 pages of cultural, historical, and research materials from the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean. It is an ideal place to start for research projects on Caribbean history, culture, and society, with materials ranging from newspapers to teaching materials. Florida International University is also a founding partner of dLOC, and has contributed much content, knowledge, and effort towards its fruition.

This workshop, geared towards faculty and students, is an introduction to using the site to aid research projects and course design. Led by FIU Libraries’ dLOC Outreach Program Manager, Katie Coldiron, it will follow a semi-interactive format, with attendees encouraged to ask questions and talk about their own research interests, courses, and projects.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
