DESCRIPTION:Professsor Ziad Musslimani's research is dedicated to the study
of linear and nonlinear wave propagation in dispersive media\, with a spec
ific emphasis on the formation of coherent structures in nonlinear optical
media and Bose-Einstein condensation. He holds the position of Director of
Applied and Computational Mathematics at Florida State University and is al
so the recipient of the Christopher Hunter Professorship of Mathematics.\n\
nAbstract: In this talk we shall outline a new method to solve initial and
boundary value problems of physical relevance. The idea is to use the under
lying physics (such as conservation laws or dissipation rate equations) com
bined with a dynamic renormalization process to numerically compute ground
and excited states as well as time-dependent solutions. We will apply the m
ethod on prototypical problems that arise in physics such as Gross-Pitaevsk
ii and Hartree-Fock equations.
