TTR: Creative Mischief: Making Art in the Age of AI

  • Description: This session will examine what it means to make art in the age of AI, where ethics are shaped not just by tools but by how they are used. Drawing on Brian Eno’s reflections on new media and Saidiya Hartman’s concept of Critical Fabulation, the lecture will explore artmaking as a propositional and sometimes mischievous practice, one that resists efficiency-driven narratives of progress. Through hands-on approaches such as databending and ideation prompts, participants will consider how creative mischief can challenge dominant ethical assumptions and open new possibilities within contemporary creative fields.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
