A photography exhibition by FIU Alumnus Donelric Owens.

Donelric Owens is a Miami based artist whose love of drawing and illustration as a child inspired him to pursue a degree in Visual Arts at Florida International University.  In his recent work in black and white photography, the artist  explores the medium and uses the historical confines of the technique to address neighborhood blight caused by the pandemic, economic disinvestment, and neglect.

Donelric Owens was born and raised in Miami Gardens, Florida.  He graduated in 2020 from Florida International University with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts, specializing in Photography and Printmaking.  The artist uses his work as a means to highlight his community and bring attention to the underrepresented.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
