Want to read a great book? Want to connect with other students? Join us this semester as we discuss Bernardine Evaristo’s novel Girl, Woman, Other. This prize-winning novel follows the lives of 12 women of color, mostly relatives from a single family, over history and with fascinating connections across time and space. As their lives intertwine in numerous ways, Evaristo makes her novel a thought experiment for discussing feminism, politics, success, sexuality, race, and relationships. This Spring 2021, our monthly discussions will be lead by Drs. Amy Kahrmann Huseby and Michael Grafals, both assistant teaching professors in the Department of English. Simply purchase the book on your own and attend the meetings. The Zoom links are available below.

We look forward to meeting you and hope you can join us!

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
