Breaking Bad, Gangland Girlfriends, Man a Kill a Man for Nuthin’, Becoming the Baddest, Blood Deportee Dealer Carer, Masculinities and Perpetual Violence, Macho Research… these are
some of the titles of publications by sociologist Adam Baird that seek to understand why poor young men are at the heart of gang violence on the streets, not just in Latin American and the
Caribbean, but across the world.

Based on two decades of research this talk asks why this is the case, and more importantly, suggests what we can do about it.

This event is part of the Latin American and Caribbean Criminology Series.

In collaboration with the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Center for the Administration of Justice

GUEST SPEAKER
Dr. Adam Baird, Sociologist, gang researcher and masculinities expert, focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
