Join the FIU NODUS Ensemble for a vibrant North–South Concert at The Betsy South Beach Hotel, featuring the adventurous music of guest composer Alex Burtzos and an international lineup of voices shaping today’s musical landscape.

Alex Burtzos is an American composer, conductor, and educator whose music—performed across four continents—blends bold contemporary ideas with influences from jazz, rock, and the avant-garde. His work defies easy categorization and reflects a wide range of inspiration and expression.

The program also showcases compelling works by composers from the Americas: Marvin Camacho (Costa Rica), Andy Akiho (USA), Eddie Mora (Costa Rica), and Diana Arismendi (Venezuela). Together, these pieces explore diverse perspectives and sound worlds, bringing fresh energy and cross-cultural resonance to new music in Miami.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
