PhotoVoice as Community Engagement – New Course Offering Fall 2018

Two Semesters:

PhotoVoice as Community Engagement is a unique interdisciplinary course designed to introduce students to the use of PhotoVoice Methodology to contribute to community-engaged research and policy, and involve students directly in community actions to address social problems affecting Latino populations in Miami.

Roarthon 2018

Roarthon, FIU’s Dance Marathon, is a year-long fundraising campaign ending in a 17-hour dance party that will begin Saturday April 14 at 5:00pm in FIU’s Wellness & Recreation Center. All the funds raised benefit the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital right here in Miami. Over 300 students will participate in the 17-hour fundraiser that takes an entire year and a committee of 50 plus students to plan and activate. As of 2017, the FIU community has raised over 1 million dollars!

MLK Day of Service

Nature Preserve Volunteer Day- Pine Rockland Restoration

Show your Panther Pride at the Preserve!!! The FIU Nature Preserve (NP) provides many opportunities for students and non-students to get involved in various volunteer activities. We have projects and activities for all skill levels; such as but not limited to: tree and brush cutting, invasive species control, plantings, habitat improvements, and nature/ recreation trails maintenance. 

Today’s volunteer day will focus on maintaining our endangered pine rockland ecosystem.

All volunteer shifts are 2 hours and include a short tour of the preserve. If a volunteer or class would like to participate in a volunteer activity that starts or ends at a different time or date an event request form must be submitted 2 weeks prior for approval. This helps to ensure the Naturalist is aware of the special arrangement and can accommodate your request. Individuals who do not make arrangements in advance will not be allowed to interrupt the naturalist due to the logistical and safety risk posed to the work plan and expected participants.
