Dawoud Bey: The Birmingham Project

 Join us for the opening reception for Dawoud Bey: The Birmingham Project. In 2013, 50 years after the infamous attack on the African-American 16th Street Baptist Church, and the ensuing violence throughout Birmingham, Dawoud Bey made his first of what would be multiple visits to that city to create a commemorative project. Over the next seven years, Bey developed The Birmingham Project—a series of vibrant and poignant photographic portraits.

Dangerous Women

Join us for the opening reception for Dangerous Women. The exhibition explores women of the Bible as portrayed by 16th and 17th-century artists, including Pietro da Cortona and Jan Saenredam. The exhibition will conclude with a modern and contemporary coda: Robert Henri’s sensuousSalome from 1901 and Michalene Thomas’ Portrait of Mamma Bush, 2010, a reminder of the tenacious appeal of the subject.
